Key Benefits Of Medical Transcription Software

MEDTRANS JOBS

Key Benefits Of Medical Transcription Software
By Rao Atluri

The increasing demand for skilled medical billing and coding
specialists can be attributed to the growing use of medical
transcription software for healthcare organizations around the
globe. Medical transcription software has slowly replaced the
need for manual transcription services that could take up to a
week to turnaround a dictation; today's innovative software and
technologies are designed to automate the dictation-to-reporting
process so that the final product can be retrieved within 24-48
hours.

Many medical transcription companies now use medical
transcription software to capture the dictation and turn it into
an accurate report. Coding specialists must be trained to use
this specialized software, and these programs offer several
benefits for any data processing agent.

Some of the key benefits of medical transcription software
include:

1. Easy voice capture and speech recognition capabilities. This
makes it easier for the medical transcriptionist to capture the
doctor's dictation with utmost accuracy. Doctors can submit
their dictation via phone or other recording device to make the
audio file available to the coding specialist, and the voice
capture technologies can make this process more accurate than
conventional methods.

2. Medical spell checking and dictionaries. Since a coding
specialist may not understand medical terminology and phrases, a
medical spellchecking function may be incorporated into the
medical transcription software. This also makes the data capture
more accurate and can save time in the grammar and spellcheck
process.

3. Easy document distribution. After the report has passed
quality control and is ready for submission, medical
transcription software can make documents available in a variety
of formats. The report can be synchronized to a doctor's
handheld device or computer, or simply sent in electronic form
for easy printing.

4. Supports a variety of audio and video formats. Medical
transcription software has been designed to support several
audio and video formats so that doctors using different types of
technology can benefit from the services. With fewer
limitations, more healthcare organizations can begin to use
medical transcription services with ease.

FREE INFO ABOUT MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTION

5. Quick and simple editing interface. If errors are present or
a medical transcriptionist needs to go back and edit certain
areas of a document, the software allows for simple editing with
a text editing tool and keyboard short cuts. This reduces
turnaround time and improves the accuracy of all reports.

6. Time code stamp functions. Medical billing and coding
specialists can make use of time stamp functions on all their
data with a touch of a button. This also reduces turnaround time
and provides better, more accurate data for the doctor.

7. Integration with many healthcare systems and programs.
Doctors and physicians can access data easily with today's
innovative medical transcription software and platforms. This
reduces time for finding and retrieving data so that reports are
readily available, at their fingertips.

Medical transcription software used by transcriptionists today
offers several benefits for healthcare organizations of all
sizes. With accurate reports and efficient turnaround times, the
software can make the entire dictation-to-reporting process very
simple. Quality control also ensures that all reports are
HIPAA-compliant and free of errors so that your healthcare
organization can benefit from consistent reporting for the
long-term.

The Which and Why of Medical Transcription Training

MEDTRANS JOBS

To many in India Medical Transcription still may be a new term but it is not so. Today India has become a major source to get reliable Medical Transcription services at comparatively low price and easy terms. The corporate sector outsourcing MT services registered a considerable growth in the last few yrs inspite of global economic crisis. This is the only field that didn't face any adverse affects of economic downtrend and the requirement of MT professional grew up to new heights. Seeing this trend, new Medical Transcription schools came in to existence. Old and new Medical Transcription schools are offering vivid courses with different curriculums. So, it becomes difficult to select the best one, here are some tips to select the right one.

Medical Transcription training proved good for one may not be proved equally good for other. Everyone of us has his/her own personal leaning capabilities, investing capacity, likings and preference for working profile. Medical Transcription is a wide field. MT professionals cater various kinds of services like: billing, preparing health record, patient histories, consultations, discharge reports, creating diagnosis record, updating treatment progress reports and test reports etc. Every service needs a specific qualification, so, the selection of Medical Transcription course depends upon individual's interest.

Anatomy and physiology, Diseases, Pharmacology and Lab work etc are some popular sub-fields of Medical Transcription. Some Medical Transcription school offers MT courses online also but inspite of modern age of internet, many organizations don't value these online courses as much as they do to regular courses. To add the value to online Medical Transcription course, students may join some volunteer organization/local health care center/ MT center etc just to get relevant experience and to improve the accuracy.

Medical Transcription Trainings are offered at three level: certificate, diploma and degree, and so is the fees structure and duration. If you want to start your own home based MT center, a diploma or even the certificate course is also sufficient to start with but if you want to do job, I will suggest a degree course. As the owner of MT center you just need to be familiar with MT field requirements, trends and latest practices. For completing the grabbed orders you may hire the services of experience MT professionals. But without a degree, experience and high level perfection you can't get a good paying job.

Medical Transcriptionist Jobs and How To Get Them
By Kenneth Echie

When you are looking into getting a career that will suit you,
you may find that it is time for you to take a look at the
medical transcription field. While becoming a medical
transcriptionist can be challenging, this field has an amazing
potential for growth. It is expected to be faster than the
average.

While some transcriptionists do work in offices, more and more
of them are working from home. They have come to realize the
advantages of the work from home lifestyle.

What does it take to get a good medical transcriptionist job?

The medical transcription job requires you to listen to dictated
recordings made by physicians and other health care
professionals and then to put these recordings into medical
reports and administrative records. In most cases, you will have
a headset with a foot pedal that will allow you to halt the
recording when necessary. As this happens, you will need to type
out what is being said into the pertinent forms or documents,
pausing to check for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

As you can tell, there are several skills that are going to be
invaluable when you are looking to take on a job like this. If
you are going to be going into medical transcription, you will
need to understand medical terminology, diagnostic procedures,
pharmacology, and treatment assessments. You will need to be
able to listen for medical jargon and for common abbreviations
that are used in medical conversation.

When you are looking to get into the field of medical
transcription, there are a number of different things that you
need to keep in mind. While there is no hard and fast
requirement, the majority of employers prefer that their
transcriptionists have completed postsecondary training on
medical transcription. This training can come from vocational
schools, community colleges and even from online training
programs.

In this regard, you will discover that a two year associate
degree or a one year certificate program can serve you very
well. You may be looking at coursework in medical terminology,
legal issues that are related to health care documentation, and
anatomy.

While there is no formal accreditation for medical
transcriptionists, you will discover that there is voluntary
accreditation that is available from the Approval Committee for
Certificate Programs and the American Health Information
Management Association. This certification can serve you well
when you are looking at competing for jobs.

When you are looking at medical transcription job, remember that
a solid grasp of the English language, the written word and good
grammar and punctuation are essential. Take some time and really
consider what you can do to get the position that you desire.
You may choose to work from home or you may want to look at a
more standard position that takes up to forty hours a week at a
local hospital or medical facility.

The next step is to do a little more research on the medical
transcriptionist career. You should do this by visiting websites
that cover the career in more detail.

Medical Transcription Career

MEDTRANS JOBS

Medical transcription has been in use since the 1950's. This is used to keep records of patients and since the doctor cannot do it themselves, this is where people like you who have the training can come in to help them and at the same time make some money.

There are a lot of medical transcription companies that offer their services to clinics, healthcare facilities, hospitals, the individual sector, laboratories and physician groups. Given the strong demand, you can even get into it yourself with the proper training and the equipment needed for this to work.

To qualify, you have to enroll in an institution that follows the syllabus designed by the American Association of Medical Transcription or AAMT. This is available in vocational schools and colleges. Those who don't have time to go to school may also find a program online so they can learn at their own convenience.

The important thing for you to learn are the medical terminologies often used by doctors so they will be able to transcribed the patient's autopsy reports, clinical notes, consultation notes, discharge summaries, laboratory repots, psychiatric evaluations, operation reports, X-rays as well as referral letters.

Once given the job, you have to make sure that these are all error free otherwise; the doctor will decide to cancel your service and find someone else who can do a better job.
Just to give you an idea, some medical transcription services have been outsourced abroad because of cheaper labor costs. Two countries that have been doing quite well in this endeavor include India and the Philippines as majority of the people who come from there speak English quite well.

Some of the services that have been offered to them include cardiology transcription, chiropractic transcription, emergency room transcription, gastroenterology transcription, general Surgery transcription, internal Medicine transcription, maxillofacial surgery transcription, physical medicine transcription, plastic surgery transcription, radiology transcription and surgery transcription.

What kind of equipment is needed in order to have a medical transcription business? Most MT companies would require a toll free number, digital recorders, computer dictation systems, computers and a server.

They have to make sure that the line of communication is secure and that it is hack proof so information about the patient does not fall into the wrong hands given the rising number of incidents relating to identity theft. This is achieved or course using hardware that is HIPAA compliant secured with 256 bit AES encryption.

What kind of career do you expect with medical transcription? For those who are starting out on their own, they can make money if they are able to keep a client with error free documentation and submit this back on time.

If they are no longer able to handle the load themselves, they can train other people to do it or hire people who have passed through the same training and then hire these individuals to work for them. In short, you are able to start up your own medical transcription company.
Will medical transcription still be around for the foreseeable future? Many experts say yes because although there are already computer software programs that have been built and used by doctors to encode the data of the patient themselves, there are still issues that they have to deal with before medical transcription which has been around for more than 50 years will be phased out.

How a Transcription Company Works

By Steve johnson

A medical transcription company will take charge of all the
medical billing and coding paperwork you need to document, and
create electronic formats of all the information for easy review
and reporting. Today's innovative technologies enable
transcriptionists to capture dictations with nearly 100%
accuracy, and all representatives are trained to comply with
HIPAA laws and regulations to maintain and secure the data.
Many transcription service providers can offer specific packages
and tiered services to suit the needs of your business; this
makes it easy to cut costs and improve workflow in your
organization, and outsourcing these services may also reduce
overhead costs. The well-trained transcriptionists will listen
to the dictations and transcribe the information into the
relevant forms. This information can then be prepared for
processing, and is often used by health insurance providers,
physicians, healthcare clinics, and other healthcare
organizations.

Most transcription companies outsource their work to home based
medical transcriptionists, and these individuals are often
trained and certified by various national accrediting parties
and agencies. This means you'll be receiving a quality product
with fast turnaround times, and reviewing materials that meet or
exceed industry standards. The transcription company may deliver
your transcribed reports in a variety of formats including
e-reporting, printed reports delivered to your facility, faxing,
or custom-designed reports. This can help you manage all of your
printing and reporting needs in one step, and makes the entire
medical and coding process much more efficient.

Working with a reliable transcription company means all of your
documentation adheres to HIPAA laws and regulations, and data
will be compiled with high standards of accuracy. When you need
medical and billing coding services, outsourced medical
transcription services can be the easiest way to save on costs,
reduce workflow inefficiencies, and manage large volumes of
patient data.

Proven Tips for Medical Transcription Career

MEDTRANS JOBS

Record keeping has become more important in healthcare industry. With the increasing importance of preparing and maintaining up to date various record in health care industry the demand of medical transcription professionals is also increasing. MT is being seen foremost industry that is not affected with ongoing recession period. There is heavy rush for enrolment for various medical transcription courses being conducted by reputed MT schools. Many medical transcription schools are conducting online courses also. So, getting qualification is not a really tough job and job opportunities too are plenty. But, even then many fail in making a successful career in MT field. This article is primarily aimed to highlight some common reasons responsible for failure.

While selecting MT service outsourcing agency, clients go through the profiles of associated professionals. Many students start their MT career just after securing certificate awarded by less reputed medical transcription schools. They don't value the rank of the medical transcription schools because of many reasons like flexibility of course duration and low fees structure. It is always recommended to start MT career after getting enough hand on experience being associated with some reputed MT center or institute. The presence of the name of these institutes makes the profile more impressive. It is suggested to complete a well recognized medical transcription course of degree level before jumping in to the job battle. Though it will make you little late to start earning but the job with reputed organizations and higher starting salary will compensate for extra time, money and efforts.

Normally, medical transcription schools teach only MT related subjects and don't emphasize upon the supporting skills like error free writing, vocabulary- selection of right word, proof reading and typing etc. When students start their career as medical transcriptionist they commit mistakes because of various left voids in their training. So, it is always recommended to choose a reputed medical transcription school following all inclusive curriculum. Paying little more fees and more time for completing recognized medical transcription course from a good school is good than to pay little at low grade schools.

Some MT professionals start their own MT just after completing medical transcription certificate course. It is not advisable. When you work independently, neither anyone knows your capabilities nor trust your claims. New MT entrepreneurs working at their own invest a lot of efforts, time and money just for convincing the customers. Even then, response ratio remains very low. Working under some reputed and famous banner helps to get fresh orders consistently and the saved marketing efforts can be used to improve the service quality.

Medical Transcription: Hospital Record Solutions

MEDTRANS JOBS

Medical Transcription: Hospital Record Solutions

Medical transcription software has seen a big boom in recent
times. The industry is of course growing. The reason for this is
globalization - a two way process that some people cannot accept
at times because it seems outsourcing is taking away jobs from
the first world base countries (when indeed these first world
companies have long been draining and still is draining the
market of the third world company). But the fact is that
globalization is a force we all have to deal with now. In fact,
if one does not take advantage of these resources of offshore
outsourcing, then one will be left behind by the competition.

One such industry that has benefited so much from outsourcing is
the medical transcription business. A medical transcription
program has many possible clients because doctors will always
need them no matter what the economic state we are in. The
government requires that the dictated medical notes of health
care workers be transcribed into text file formats so that it
can be easily stored in a database.

There is certainly much to gain from contracting outsource
transcription business offshore. The demand for the service is
always on the rise as the population grows. This industry's
service demand is not affected by the economic recession around
the globe because people will always need health care. A wise
company will take advantage of the growing offshore as well as
onshore opportunities that provide cheaper transcription
services. The biggest benefit of course is the savings.
Contracting a medical transcription business can give you big
savings. Also, since these companies are specialized and are
equipped with the latest in transcription software, they do
their job pretty fast. The production process is streamlined to
perfection and the transcribers are well trained. There is
another big gain from contracting other companies to do your
medical transcription program: that is the fact that it gives
the transcribed files more accessibility. Since most of these
services already provide online file sharing services, all those
concerned will not have any problems in finding and accessing
the documents.

The biggest developments that launched this field can be
credited to the miracle of modern day software. The voice
recognition transcription programs that automatically convert
the audio speech into text are ingenious. Although this
technology still has to be checked and guided by human
transcription, this medical transcription software saves you

and Services Companies (NASSCOM) estimates that at least 120-150
companies are engaged in medical transcription there. India has
an estimated. 18,000 transcriptionists today, but the number is
expected to swell to 50,000 by 2010. Similar acceleration is
projected in the Philippines where the number of MTs is pegged
to climb from 7,000 to 25,000 by 2010. The growth in
transcription is outstripping the ability of the U.S. based
professionals to meet the demand. The Volumes continue to climb
despite introduction of new technologies from time to time. An
estimate by the U.S. Departmant of Labor suggested that the U.S.
healthcare industry will need 90,000 additional medical record
professionals by 2012.A blended approach is worked out where the
there are two or more countries involved depending on the needs
clients.

Nevertheless the essentials of Transcription job which are the
quality people, educational excellence, information security and
technological innovation cannot be compromised at any cost.
Regardless of venue, educated and credentialed staff with the
right set of skills and training must be available 24x7.

Such employers do find language and dialect barriers. These
issues must be faced whether working within different U.S.
regions or overseas. As in the U.S., now in other countries too,
the female workers work from home as it guarantees a certain
level of lifestyle flexibility. At the same time the security is
also kept in mind, whereby the employers use digital
certificates and encryption (digital signature) and give
assurance to their clients that they are connected to a valid
server and files are being accessed by authorized individuals
only.

Transcription is one field which actually pays very well and
may be used by us for a proper paying home based job. It may be
used by students or retired persons as a part time job.
Transcription Services are provided by many companies and
organizations that employ the above. They employ subcontractors
and many, whose number is rising, outsource the transcription
work.

Generally one who wants to get transcription checks about the
quality of employees, the number of hours covered the IT
infrastructure one has in place. If there is a U.S. component to
the work force. In this digital age companies may have
transcriptionists based in more than one country.

The Medical Transcription industry has created innumerable
number of jobs in the Transcription World, the virtual word. If
you undergo training as a Medical Transcritionist or a course of
Medical Transcription then the chances of being employed by the
transcription companies and the online transcription providers
are very bright. However, the employers always give preference
to crendiateled and experienced candidates.

Another field in which the transcription providers are creating
unbelieanle employment is Legal Transcription. There is a huge
demand of audio digital typing transcription services for
immigration judges, solicitors, film and television production
companies, entrepreneurs,legal companies and professionals,
tribunals, university academic and market research, focus
groups, conferences, consultancies and businesses.

The latest trend is Transcription Service providers hiring
free-lance transcriptionists who transcribe in high standards
maintaining strict confidentiality. The work is allotted to them
and they produce high quality work to the budget fixed. They are
in no way less skillful than any other employers of the
Transcription providers. They adhere to the standard of
transcription and work in co-ordination with the specific
requirements and demands of the clients. The turn around time is
decided mutually by the provider and the transcriptionists. Some
of the companies even allow them to email the final
transcription to the clients!

How Medical Transcription Works

MEDTRANS JOBS

How Medical Transcription Works

Many of the medical facilities outsource transcription for
various reasons. For the convenience of the physicians and
hospitals, most of the transcription service providers will have
a wide variety of options to send us the dictations and to
receive transcriptions: Toll free telephone lines Digital and
cassette tape hand held recorders Dictation servers
Transcriptions via secure e-mail, secure file transfer protocol
or website data bank Transcriptions via fax or remote internet
printer

Dictation on toll free telephone lines: This is a
dedicated computerized system that allows the physicians to call
in from any phone, including cellular, and dictate. Once the
toll free number is dialed voice prompts will guide through the
process, which will enable the physicians to dictate. Each
physician will be given a unique id. Many dial-n-dictate
programs are very physician-friendly and prompts are given for
each step. For the convenience of the physicians facilities like
rewind, replay, save, abort, fast forward etc are also
available. The chances of losing dictations are very remote
eliminating the need for re-dictation.

Digital hand held recorders: If the physician does not
want to dial the numbers every time and do not want to be bound
to a phone, digital hand held recorder is the best alternative.

A digital voice recorder is smaller or about the same size of an
hand-held tape recorder and is operated like one.

Voice is recorded on internal / removable memory cards like
those used in digital cameras. Each card can take up to 10 hours
of dictation. It can be plugged into a computer interface and
the voice can be sent to the transcription company via Internet.
The voice can be saved into the computer or deleted so that the
card can be reused. One can continue to record on another card
if one is full. Hence waiting for the files to transfer if
avoided. By keeping a few cards available, physician can record
wherever and whenever required.

It is very easy and takes very little time to remove the card
from the recorder, insert it into a computer interface and
transfer the files via Internet.

Most important point to remember is, all the transfers should be
secure and appropriate HIPAA compliant file transfer program has
to be selected like secure ftp, secure email

Dictation servers The transcription service provider can
log into the hospital dictation server if the hospital is
already having one.

Alternatively, inexpensive computer programs are available.
Physician can directly dictate to the computer using a wireless
or wired microphone. The transcription service
provider
can access these dictations.

Getting back the Transcriptions Transcribed records can
be received by one of the following options: As an email
attachment. However the email service should be secure and HIPAA
compliant.

Transcriptions can be received via fax or remote internet
printer by which docuemtns are directly printed by the transcription service
provider
at the physician's end. Transcriptions can be
downloaded from the secure ftp site provided by the medical
transcription service provider.

Some of the transcription
service providers
like Vision Infonet will have online data
servers. Physicians can access these servers through a browser
to:

- Search, view and secure download the transcriptions anytime -
Transcriptions can be edited and saved online. - Respective
voice file can be played while editing - Electronic signature
can be added. - Automatic faxing the transcriptions can be done

What are Good Medical Transcription Schools?

MEDTRANS JOBS

Most survey reports about the job opportunities like the recent one of Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics show that there is tremendous demand of medical transcription professionals and what is more it tends to go further up inspite of current economic crisis. As a result, a sudden growth of medical transcription training is being felt all over the world. So, neither we have shortage of schools nor the aspiring candidates. But the major problem is to identify the best suitable school to complete medical transcription course. After conducting a good research over this issue, I succeeded to rope in some parameters that will help you all to judge the standards and job market rank of short listed medical transcription schools.

Good medical transcription schools have comprehensive curriculum that is designed by experienced medical transcription professionals. Curriculum of these medical transcription schools is updated every year after analyzing the trend of the medical transcription job market. This practice leaves no voids in the curriculum as a result students comes out of medical transcription school completely trained to face the challenges posed by fast changing trends of health care industry. Good schools include all the relevant topics like physiology, human anatomy, medical terminology, abbreviations and disease processes etc also in their MTcourse. So, the students start working with confidence delivering error free results that makes a smooth way of progress for them.

Just obtaining a degree from medical transcription school serves no purpose unless it is backed with much needed practical experience. Selected medical transcription school must have strong focus upon practical application because in this field text knowledge without hands on experience is of no use. Without using medical transcription skill, you wouldn't know the nature of the problems that arise while working as professional. That's why; good medical transcription schools don't award MT certificate or degree unless one satisfies the faculty with competency level. To improve expected competency level and expertise, completion of internship or training period within school is made part of the medical transcription course.

Before joining any medical transcription school, it is must to know and confirm the job placement record of previous years. The best way is to get some references and talk directly with the previous students. Another way, to judge the creditability of MT school is to keep an eye upon the recruiters and their preferences of schools.

Though most of the medical transcription courses are not too much costly but even then you must be sure enough about the available financial aid.

Work From Home Medical Transcription

MEDTRANS JOBS

Everyone related to MT field has seen dramatic growth and tremendous changes in this industry during past few yrs. Demand of MT professionals qualified from reputed medical transcription trainings went up almost 15% and is expected to go up in the same fashion during the forthcoming few yrs. During the last few yrs, MT field also emerged as the most favorite home based business option. Many men or women who couldn't afford to go outside of home because of personal vivid reasons entered in to this field after getting requisite MT qualification from online medical transcription trainings and registered significant growth that inspired many to follow their steps. But, is it so easy to step into successful MT professional's shoes? Or is doing the most demanded medical transcription course from a reputed institute is the surety of success? I will say-no.

Before starting career in MT field, it is must to analyze personal likings, capabilities and preferences. MT has many branches too choose from. Some of those are: discharge summaries, consultation reports, medical history examination reports, autopsy reports, operation analysis reports, progress notes, diagnostic studies and referral letters etc. Anyone or the set of many can be selected as per personal preference, all have same potential and rest depends upon individual's efforts. Before starting MT career, one needs enough experience so that he could serve the clients with error free time bound services in one go in a professional way. In this business clients don't allow you to try again or to correct errors. So, there is no scope of saying sorry.

For getting orders for home based MT business, one needs the MT degree awarded by a reputed medical transcription training. The reputation of medical transcription training matters a lot in personal profile. Association with some renowned medical centers is also must to attract clients. Working as volunteer or as a trainee with some social institution or health care center catering MT services to international clients is the best way to tackle this hurdle. Existing and previous client list also plays major role in influencing the client to place order in favor of personal home based MT centre. To remain in the main race, it is must to invest some efforts daily in marketing of self. A good database of clients absorbs the surges of low work pressure and the earning level remains same.

Getting success in home based MT business is long term affair and nobody can achieve the success overnight. Success and expansion in home based MT business largely depend upon the references forwarded by satisfied clients. If budget allows, launching a website for publicity is also a good idea.

The Future of Medical Transcription

By: Ollie Style

It is projected that the demand for medical transcriptionist will grow dramatically in the next few years this is partly because of the aging population. The majority of our older generation would need to go to physician's offices or hospitals for their medical check-ups or other medical procedures thus increasing the records to be encoded which will in turn increase the records to be transcribed by professional medical transcriptionists, which means more jobs for the trained or experienced medical transcriber.

There is also a need to put the medical records online in order for doctors to easily access their patients records and if there is a need for another institution to access the medical records of a patient it would be easier to pull them out from the world wide web when medical records are encoded online or through the intranet. That is why medical transcriptionists will be very busy listening and transcribing thousands of medical records year in and year out.
